Design Research Guidelines
Guideline | Description |
Guideline 1: Design as an Artifact | Design-science research must produce a viable artifact in the form of a construct, a model, a method, or an instantiation. |
Guideline 2: Problem Relevance | The objective of design-science research is to develop technology-based solutions to important and relevant business problems. |
Guideline 3: Design Evaluation | The utility, quality, and efficacy of a design artifact must be rigorously demonstrated via well-executed evaluation methods. |
Guideline 4: Research Contributions | Effective design-science research must provide clear and verifiable contributions in the areas of the design artifact, design foundations, and/or design methodologies. |
Guideline 5: Research Rigor | Design-science research relies upon the application of rigorous methods in both the construction and evaluation of the design artifact. |
Guideline 6: Design as a Search Process | The search for an effective artifact requires utilizing available means to reach desired ends while satisfying laws in the problem environment. |
Guideline 7: Communication of Research | Design-science research must be presented effectively both to technology-oriented as well as management-oriented audiences. |

Developing an educational guidelines for educators, trainers, and students interested in fraud and forensic accounting in Saudi Arabia
try to submission to 2019 forensic Accounting Research Conference
St. Louis March 1-2 2019 (deadline –Monday December 3 2018)
Problem Domain
The financial corruption and fraud are increased in many third world countries, Saudi Arabia included.
Several cases of corruption and misappropriation of funds have been committed in both government and corporate sector and these could increase in the coming years if nothing is done.
corruption crackdown – 4 November 2017
– 500 people Arrest(s)
-Those arrested, detained, or removed from their posts include, but are not limited
-The List of involved people were princes, government ministers, and business people.
-The allegations was include a money laundering, bribery, extorting officials, and taking advantage of public office for personal gain
– The Saudi authorities claimed that amount was composed of assets worth around $300 billion to $400 billion that they can prove was linked to corruption
-King Salman stated that the anti-corruption committee need to “identify offences, crimes and persons and entities involved in cases of public corruption”.
-He also referred to the “exploitation by some of the weak souls who have put their own interests above the public interest, in order to illicitly accrue money
Solution Domain
-Increasing pressure start on government and corporate organizations ,Universities ,to develop effective systems to curb corruption and fraud.
SO I think one ways of dealing with these issues is the introduction of forensic accounting .By Developing an educational guidelines for educators, trainers, and students interested in fraud and forensic accounting in Saudi Arabia
The technique of forensic accounting is useful and has been used to detect fraud in many developed countries.
this paper will be based on collaboration among researchers, practicing professionals, and educators form Saudi Arabia .
To develop guidelines designed to assist colleges, universities, professors, course developers, and training professionals .

Design Science Research
Have you ever wanted to conduct research that helps practitioners create a better future?
DSR Goals:
Solve a Wicked Problem
In a new or existing Challenging Problem Domain
With one or more Innovative Solutions
That is Inspired, Motivated, or, Informed by Practice
Using a Research Ingrained Approach
That generates knowledge
That informs scholarship and practice

Design Science
Design Science Research is a problem-solving paradigm that seeks to enhance human knowledge via the creation of innovative artifacts.
(See Hevner et. al., 2004)
DSR is a prominent form of Engaged Scholarship in which multiple key stakeholders (researchers, users, clients, sponsors, practitioners) collaborate to understand and address an important, complex problem/opportunity.
(See Van de Ven, 2007)
DSR projects are:
Team-based, Longitudinal, Goal-driven studies
DSR results inform multiple audiences:
Researchers: Design artifact innovation, principles and theories (Generalizable)
Practitioners: Artifact (product and process) instantiations (Solutions)
Managers: Decision and Operations system improvements
Government: Economic and social change engines

We Research
Describe People and Organizational Behaviors.
Explaining Phenomenon in the richest possible context.
Predict why and how they might behave tomorrow.
To find the new and innovative.
To generalize from one to many.
To generate and share new knowledge.
Can be Exploratory, Descriptive, or Explanatory.
Qualitative and Quantitative.
With numerous examples of mixed-methods research.

Grounded in Design in Other Fields – Long Histories
Engineering, Education, Architecture, Art
Roles of Creativity, Innovation, Creation, Utility, and Collaboration in Design

Relationship of Research Paradigms
Any organizational system is:
complex,
artificial, and,
purposefully designed.
Challenging to understand, modify, and improve
So by comparison:
Behavioral Research – Goal is Truth
Design Research – Goal is Utility

Pragmatic guidance for performing DSR
DSR is grounded in a Philosophy of Pragmatism
The philosophy of pragmatism emphasizes the practical application of ideas by acting on them to actually test them in human experiences
Pragmatism focuses on changing (improving) one’s world rather than studying an unchanging world
Creating a Better Future through the Guided, Emergent Build and Evaluation of Innovative Artifacts
Shows fit/utility and avoids suggesting “proof”, “truth”, “law”

DSR impacts
DSR must report the kinds of impact expected and achieved by the resulting artifact
Design artifacts should impact practice and the embodied design theories should impact research
Artifacts are the vehicle for the dissemination of knowledge. The idea and design principles that are embodied by the artifact disseminate along with the artifact
Practical impacts include the use of the artifact to effectively provide evolving solutions for business and industrial organizations
Research impacts include dissemination of ideas and generalizeable design principles via publication to guide future research directions
Accumulation and Evolution of Design Knowledge
